How Do We Defeat the Evil One?

1 John 2:14 out of Bear’s Prayers reads, “I have all the vigor of youth, because I have a hold on Jahuwah’s Torah and because I have defeated the evil one.” After reading this aloud to myself a bunch of times I saw a connection between “defeat[ing] the evil one” and having a “hold on Jahuwah’s Torah” and wrote in the footnotes of the passage the following:
The Evil One keeps you from taking a hold of the Torah with, from Genesis 3:24, the flaming (Strong’s H#3858 lahat {lah’-hat} to hide; to use occult and magical arts) sword (Strong’s H#2719 chereb {kheh’-reb} sharp or biting to the taste or smell; bitterly pungent; irritating to the eyes, nose; a sword). Genesis 3:24, “He placed at the east of the Garden of Eden the cherubim and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep and guard the way to the tree of life.” In Revelation 18:23, talking about Babylon, meaning confusion (mix or mingle things so as to render the elements indistinguishable), and also described as the most corrupt seat of idolatry says, “…and by your magic spells and poisonous charm all nations were led astray (seduced and deluded).” “Magic spells and poisonous charm” is Strong’s G#5331 pharmakeia {far-mak-i’-ah} meaning the use or the administering of drugs; poisoning; sorcery, magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it; the deceptions and seductions of idolatry. According to Revelations 18:23 this caused a multitude of people, “the nations” to be lead aside from the right way; wander; metaph. to be lead away from the truth, to be lead into error, to be deceived; to be led away into transgression. We know from Psalm 119:142 that Jahuwah’s “Torah is truth.” and from Malachi 2:6 as well (“The Torah of truth was in his mouth…”). We know from 1 John 3:4 that, “When I commit transgression I break Jahuwah’s Torah. Transgression by definition is a breaking of Jahuwah’s Torah.” So, “to be lead away from the truth” and “to be led away into transgression” would be to be lead away from the Torah.
The word “defeated” in 1 John 2:14 is Strong’s G#3528 nikao {nik-ah’-o} meaning to conquer and thereby free yourself from the power of the beast; also, to keep oneself unharmed and spotless from ones adversaries advice, solicitations, and assaults. Proverbs 3:18 says that wisdom is, “…a tree of life to those who lay hold on her…” Deuteronomy 4:5-6 says, “Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances as Jahuwah my Mighty Creator commanded me, that you should do them in the land which you are entering to possess. So keep them and do them, for that is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.” Deuteronomy 29:9 says, “Therefore keep the words of this covenant and do them that you may deal wisely and prosper in all that you do.” 1 Corinthians 1:30 says, “But it is from Him that you have your life in the Anointed One Jahshuwah, Whom Jahuwah made our Wisdom from Jahuwah.” And 1 Corinthians 2:7, “But rather what we are setting forth is a wisdom of Jahuwah once hidden from the human understanding and now revealed to us by Jahuwah–that wisdom which Jahuwah devised and decreed before the ages for our great approval to lift us into the majesty of His presence.” Colosians 2:2-3, “…that they may become progressively more intimately acquainted with and may know more definitely and accurately and thoroughly that mystic secret of Jahuwah, which is the Anointed One. In Him all the treasures of divine wisdom, comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of Jahuwah and all the riches of spiritual knowledge and enlightenment are stored up and lie hidden.”
In summary, to “defeat” the evil one is to sort through all the lies, deception, sorceries, and spells and come to the realization that the Torah is the “Tree of Life” and that Jahshuwah is the Torah/Word in action. See John 1: 1-4, 14, “In the beginning [before all time] was the Word, and the Word was with Jahuwah, and the Word was Jahuwah Himself. He was present originally with Jahuwah. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being…And the Word became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us.” Also see Proberbs 8:29-31, “When He gave to the sea its limit and His decree that the waters should not transgress [across the boundaries set by] His command, when He appointed the foundations of the earth–Then I [Wisdom] was beside Him as a master and director of the work; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing before Him always, rejoicing in His inhabited earth and delighting in the sons of men.” Until you have done this, you have not defeated the evil one.
